Too many people put off planning or saving for retirement until tomorrow — and before they know it, tomorrow is today and they’re left with nothing. Scary prospect, eh? Here’s how you can avoid letting this happen to you.
in today’s episode of Your Money Minute with Tracy Stewart, CPA, I want to share how to build financial security for retirement by having a financial plan. Sure, you may *think you have all of the numbers crunched in your head — but until it’s on paper and on purpose, it isn’t a plan.
A financial plan requires you do your homework, you think realistically and you work with a professional to dot your “i”s and cross your “T”s. With your financial plan, be specific and be honest with yourself. What do you really want out of your retirement? Don’t broad brush or cut corners: Work with your financial planner to come up with a roadmap to hit your goals.
One word on working with a financial planner: You wouldn’t do your own appendectomy or brain surgery… Don’t do your financial plan on your own either. Yes, even financial planners work with a professional to get their financial plan on paper.
Financial independence is unbelievably liberating. Just knowing you’ll be financially secure into your retirement years is such an incredible feeling — and I want to help you get there.
