Financial advice seems like it’s a dime a dozen these days. So how do you know if the advice you’re getting on your money is the best information for you?
In today’s episode of Your Money Minute with Tracy Stewart, CPA, I want to talk about There’s nothing better than partnering with a trusted advisor to help you sort through your financial needs and goals. But how do you find such an advisor?
First, I recommend you go into your search with two things: (1) A list of goals and expectations, and (2) A healthy sense of skepticism.
Do you know what you want to do with your money? Are you interested in saving? Do you need help on spending? Maybe you want to know which investments are the best fit for you? Be clear on your goals and what you want to accomplish.
I always say: Don’t just take the first financial advisor recommended to you. Do your homework, interview these professionals and make sure you’re a great fit. Ask lots of questions — and make sure they ask YOU questions too! Financial advice is highly individualized, and if your advisor doesn’t take time to establish a relationship, then your advice is going to be generic and unhelpful.
You can see a few questions I recommend asking as you search for the right financial advisor.
Financial independence is unbelievably liberating. Surround yourself with professionals and advisors that know you and what you want out of life — and you’ll find that you are able to live happier, healthier and more confident as a result.
